In a world where tweets, texts,
And status updates
Bombard us
By the second,
Where commercials,
Advertisements,
Movies, and television
All tell us we need
More, more, more!
Where the insight
Of our elders
Has been exchanged
For flawed role models,
Where ‘inner beauty’
Is a trite concept
Because physical beauty
Can get you everything you need,
Where youth is power,
Wisdom is worthless,
Entitlement is everything,
Family is forgotten,
Material goods matter most,
Money makes things happen,
And religion is ridiculed,
It’s hard to separate the self,
Think outside the norm,
Live beyond the standard,
For something better, bigger, beyond.
It’s tragic that
the trinity of today is
Me
Myself and
I.
