Jensen Reed is a published author, co-owner of Pixie Forest Publishing, admin for Writing Bad,  and mother to two young boys. She’s been married to her best friend for over seven years and is an all-around nerd who loves to inspire and support others. When not working for PFP or WB, she enjoys dabbling in writing genres and watching T.V. and movies.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
Probably not until 2011. I did a lot of poetry for a while but I really started writing when my husband and I moved to a new state.

What kinds of things have you written? Do you have a favorite?
I have ten short stories in published/publishing anthologies and about ten WIPs, ha. My main WIP is a zombie apocalypse series that eases the reader into the outbreak with Lucky and Mack. It’s a four book series and I’m aiming to publish the finished, but in revision, book one this year. It’s been ongoing since 2011/2014

What is your favorite genre to read? To write?
I love fantasy and adventure. I dabble in a lot of writing genres, but my main ones are fantasy, horror, and romance.

Do you have any writing routines?
Not really. I try to get writing in whenever I have a chance between all of the other stuff I have going on. My usual writing time is once my two boys are in bed, if it isn’t a movie/TV night with my husband.

Tell me about your publishing company.

Pixie Forest Publishing was founded in April of 2018 by myself and Donise Sheppard. We wanted to give writers a chance to be published and to help shine more light on indie authors and books. We always pay our authors and provide author copies of the books. We are slowly working towards getting more funds so we can up our payment amount.

We offer monthly book boxes full of indie books and fun themed swag as a way to get funds for paying our authors AND get more eyes on indie community. They’ve been a pretty big hit so far, we just wish we could figure out a better way to afford shipping overseas March’s theme is fantasy. April we will have two boxes, a kid’s box and an animal themed box.

We have one published anthology, Love Dust, which is a multi-genre book of love stories. Ghosts, mermen, domestic violence is mentioned, artists, time travel. There are some truly amazing stories in it.

Our second anthology was released March 8th. Magical Reality is thirteen stories of modern fantasy. I am so excited for this one and we love the stories and authors involved.

We have two open calls for submissions right now. At Death’s Door is a theme of death/dying in any genre. End date for submissions is April 1st. This is going to be a bigger book than the other two, and we love the theme.

Across A Decade is a call for submissions from kids ages 8-18. We accept any genre of sort story and poem as long as it’s on the theme of growing up. It’s an open ended one, we are going until we feel we have enough stories and poems. So far we have accepted several and we are super excited!

What are you working on now?
Getting “Ranch” ready to publish, a collection of horror stories, some short fiction for upcoming anthologies, a novella about zombies/aliens, and a modern fantasy novella.

Is there anything you’d like to plug?
Yes! Salty Tales anthology releases March 1st. You can read my short story “The Oceanside Piano” in it. You can preorder now here

You can also check out Love Dust and Magical Reality for a great selection of short stories.

Finally, one of my closest friends is releasing the third book in her trilogy in March as well. The Reckoning by Tricia Wentworth. If you like YA books or Dystopian then you need The Culling series.

BONUS QUESTIONS:

What one thing would you bring to a desert island?

Easy. Dean Winchester. Yeah, yeah I know people say to bring Sam or Cas cause Dean would always find them….but I want Dean. muahahaha

If you could have any superpower, which would you choose.
I have at least five Facebook statuses a year complaining that I can’t teleport yet. I want to be where my people are. Minnesota…more like Minnesnowta.

Thanks Jensen! Happy writing and happy sales!
