I enjoyed J. S. Johnson’s writing, as well as the world she’s built in this novella. It was a quick afternoon read – just what I needed on a stressful day. There isn’t a huge amount of depth involved in the story – not a lot of thought required – but that’s certainly not a bad thing. The story is a bit predictable, but that’s not where the magic lies. The highlight of the story is Johnson’s character depiction. She’s marvelous at creating characters you can believe in, picture in your mind, and imagine with a life outside the novella. I enjoyed each character, even the disposable ones.
