Amelia found the mask at a flea market booth. “A wall decoration,” the vendor had said. Amelia wasn’t too sure. It was the size of a human face, the inside contoured as if it had been molded onto a person. There were holes for the eyes, but not for the mouth. She pulled the mask out of the bin and held it up to her face, slowly bringing it closer. “Boo!” her friend Tommy yelled behind her. She screamed and jumped, then set the mask down on the table, following Tommy out of the stall. “So close,” the frozen lips whispered.
