Marie was tapping her foot when the landlord arrived. Before he could speak, she said, “I want to cancel my lease.”
The landlord looked around. Marie was surrounded by her belongings. “But you’re moving in today.” He gestured to the towers of boxes.
“That was before.”
“Before what?”
“Before that.” She gestured towards the front door, which was wide open.
The landlord sighed and stepped into the apartment. He looked all around but saw nothing.
Heading back out to Marie, he shrugged. “Sorry, I didn’t see anything. What’s the problem?”
Marie leveled her gaze at him. “There was a spider.”
