Such a fun story! Some incredibly unique takes on zombies. Thoroughly enjoyed the story, but got hung up on the execution of it. The entirety of the first quarter bothered me because of the excessive hand holding – I prefer authors to think I have at least a little intelligence! But when the hand holding turned into bashing me over the head, I got a bit frustrated. It was not necessary to remind me every chapter that the main character had no hope of ever finding true love or getting married. I did not need a hint every other chapter that the male protagonist may or may not be a werewolf. And I certainly didn’t need to have that clue, which was pounded into my skull every few pages, not even have a payoff in this book. There was so much foreshadowing, the sun completely left – which reminds me of the chapter where Wycliff is compared to a storm at least 6 times. The author getting enamored with her own writing is a bit of a detraction.
Likewise, holding off on a key clue until 75% of the way into the book was discouraging. Part of the fun of mysteries is trying to solve them before the characters, and if the characters are operating with knowledge the reader doesn’t have, the game isn’t fair, and the book isn’t quite as fun.
