The Scavenger's Daughters (Tales of the Scavenger's Daughters #1)The Scavenger’s Daughters by Kay Bratt

(Very minor possible spoilers.) There is one word that comes to mind regarding this book: inoffensive. The story moves incredibly slowly, the problems are mundane, and the most interesting thing that happens is teased about (unnecessarily) for around 150 pages before we find out what it is, then nothing comes of it. The writing was self- indulgent, but not in a bad way. It very much felt like someone who did a whole lot of world building without a lot of plot. The one page of sexual suggestion felt very, very out of place and pulled me out of the story. Finally, the ending felt forced, and I felt a bit manipulated: the characters didn’t really earn the ending, and it didn’t feel realistic – much more like wish fulfillment. On the plus side, the writing itself was good, and the characters were easy to fall in love with. Overall, a good read for people who like ‘slice of life’ works.
