This is such a fun book. The plot centers around a fictional island named after the creator of “The quick brown fox…” sentence. When one letter drops from the sign displaying the sentence, the island council decides all inhabitants must cease using that letter. As more letters fall, the restrictions grow, leading to more and more creative uses of the English language. As an epistolary novel, the ability of each letter writer to use fewer letters makes for lighthearted, fun reading, although the deeper implications of censorship and control are still at play. Witty writing and fantastic satire. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
