Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

I bought this book knowing absolutely nothing about it – other than that it was started as a NaNoWriMo book. I absolutely devoured this book. The writing is generally well-done, though a bit average at points, and fortunately never dips into bad writing. The plot is fast paced and well constructed; I found myself not caring much about the set-up, but the author was aware that it was a weaker point and rushed through, helping the reader get to the good stuff more quickly. I enjoyed how the characters simply continued their lives when Joshua is thrown in with them, so that I had to work just as hard as Joshua did to get my bearings. In addition, I particularly appreciate the amount of research that clearly went into the story. It’s a wonderful book no matter what genre you usually enjoy. Highly recommended!
